For the opening of the Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen Umi to To (Sea and Light) / Hewitt Resort, the name of the hotel was drawn by Shoko Kanazawa, a world-renowned calligrapher.

In addition to her solo exhibitions and lectures held in Japan and abroad, Ms. Kanazawa has been active in many other fields, including writing for the Emperor of Japan, dedicating her works to famous shrines and temples, including Ise Shrine, and creating the official Tokyo 2020 art poster for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
The calligraphy, "Living Together," which expresses the pain of the devastation caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, has given hope to many people and is still displayed in many places in Japan even after the disaster.
The driving force behind Ms. Kanazawa's work is her desire to "make everyone happy. The energy that comes from her pure desire for the joy of others stimulates people's hearts and stirs up images through her calligraphy, and some people are even moved to tears.
As her mother, Yasuko, who is also Ms. Kanazawa's calligraphy teacher, says, "As usual, the work is typical of Shoko," the work she wrote this time is also characterized by strong yet relaxed and fluctuating lines, and when you face it for a while, you can feel Ms. Kanazawa's wishes.

She loves hot springs.
"I want everyone to be happy with energy and smiles."
The calligraphy written by Ms. Kanazawa is displayed in the lobby floor.
We hope that you will stop by and feel Ms. Kanazawa's thoughts when you visit the museum.
