The history of Nasu Onsen dates back to the Asuka period, believed to have been discovered about 1,390 years ago.
The first recorded mention of Nasu Onsen appears in documents from the Nara period, and it is a hot spring with a rich history,
visited by historical figures such as Minamoto no Yoritomo (former commander-in-chief of the imperial army) and Matsuo Basho (haiku poet).
